German model turned actress Diane Kruger is set to produce and star in a new mini-series about the life of movie star inventor Hedy Lamarr.
Lamarr, who was originally from Austria, became a huge celebrity in the 1930s and 40s, but she was more than just a pretty face, and during World War II, she and a friend invented a kind of radio signal that can shift its frequency to reduce interference.
The technology they created is now the basis of modern must-haves like wifi and bluetooth.
In a statement, Kruger noted that she's "fascinated by" Lamarr, who she calls "a smart, witty, visionary inventor, way ahead of her time, who also happened to be a major movie star".
The blonde bombshell is also a pretty major movie star herself, and was named Best Actress at this year's Cannes Film Festival for 'In the Fade', her first ever movie in her native German tongue.
